What it is:

A beautiful double-fronted Victorian house in South London with lovely bones and oodles of charm waiting to be rediscovered. We peeled away the previous early noughties refurbishment and created a soulful home filled with depth and character.

The family:

A young, sociable family with an active life who love travelling and the outdoors, who wished for a gorgeously inviting home to relax, retreat and, come the weekend, entertain.

Background:

When the couple first visited the house, they knew it was something special but its charm was hidden behind the bland and dated decoration they’d inherited. They were keen to add soul to the period property and had a number of interesting art works and pieces of furniture they’d collected on their travels and stints living overseas before starting a family that they wished to include in the new schemes.

 Muses & motivations:

In addition to their travels,  the owners imagined a home that reminded them of the rustic beauty of their favourite English countryside hotel, Heckfield Place. So we married old with new, home and away, to create a warm and inviting home that references the journeys and joys they’ve shared so far as well as marking a new chapter in their life with their young daughter Vesper.

It’s all in the details:

While the couple made specific requests, we offered up design elements that surprised and delighted:  two dark blue ceilings that tied the spaces together without losing either rooms’ expansiveness, a magnificent pink Art Deco-style master bathroom, asymmetrical wall lighting, and perhaps most surprising and delightful of all, a yellow bathtub in the family bathroom.
